About the speaker: SHERNA BERGER GLUCK, daughter of a rabbi and a Topanga Green, is a long time social activist-scholar. She was a leading member of various grassroots women's liberation groups in Los Angeles , starting in 1972, and for the past two decades, has been active especially in the international feminist movement, focusing particularly on Middle Eastern/Western Asia women. A prominent oral historian, she taught women's studies and directed the oral history program at CSULB until her retirement.
Active in the Palestinian solidarity movement for more than two decades, she was one of the founders both of the US Academic and Cultural Boycott campaign and the Israel Divestment Campaign. During the first intifada, she made multiple trips to Palestine (1989-1994) and her book, An American Feminist in Palestine: The Intifada Years (Temple University Press) is based on her experiences there. In 2004, after a successful campaign to win Pacifica back from earlier hi-jackers, together with other activists founded the (South and West Asia and North Africa) SWANA Collective of KPFK, which produces the weekly Radio Intifada program.
